// about me

Hi, I'm Vaibhav

Building, breaking, but always learning.

Hi, I'm Vaibhav Pratap Singh, also known as V8 on the internet.

I'm a computer science student with a minor in AI & ML, but most of my learning has happened outside classrooms. Curiosity, self-learning, and building things from scratch have shaped how I approach computers. Over the years, Linux and open source have become a big part of how I work and think.

I'm deeply interested in Linux, FOSS, and systems-level software. Understanding how things work internally matters more than surface-level results. This naturally pulled me toward low-level programming, where performance, simplicity, and correctness are important. Lately, I've been spending more time with Rust, exploring it as a safer and more modern systems language.

My approach to software is heavily influenced by KISS and the Unix philosophy. I prefer simple tools, clear ideas, and minimal abstractions. While I do have experience with full-stack development, it's something I treat as a practical skill, useful when needed and often necessary for earning, but not what excites me the most.

Alongside programming, I've worked with graphic design and video editing, mostly through community work and personal projects. These skills developed naturally while handling different kinds of computer-related tasks and helped me appreciate the balance between design and engineering.

I've been actively involved in open-source communities and student tech spaces. From leading and organizing FOSS-related initiatives to helping grow communities like GNOME India and running student groups, community building has been an important part of the journey. Teaching, organizing, and sharing knowledge have helped shape both technical and personal growth.

Outside of tech, interests often drift into philosophy, history, geography, and scientific reading. A lot of this exploration is driven by curiosity and an ADHD-powered mind that enjoys jumping between ideas. I'm not much of a coffee person. Quiet thinking, late-night experiments, and reading usually work better.

If any of this resonates with you, feel free to reach out through my social handles. Replies might take some time, but they are always genuine.
