Building, breaking, but always learning.
I'm Vaibhav Pratap Singh, usually known as V8 online. I've always liked asking questions and figuring things out.
I studied computer science with a minor in AI & ML, but a lot of what I know came from learning on my own. I'd try things on my computer, break something, and work out how to fix it. Over time, that got me into Linux, open source, and systems programming.
I like understanding what software is doing behind the scenes, which is what interests me about low-level programming. Lately, I've been exploring Rust. I'm also into cybersecurity and am a CEH.
I work at Automology Labs and I'm building XE, a programming language and compiler project. I'm also learning more about LLVM and compiler architecture. My everyday setup is Fedora with niri.
I like keeping things simple, the Unix way. KISS is a good reminder of that. I've also done full-stack development for projects and freelance work, though systems programming is what interests me most.
I also do graphic design and video editing. I learned design through YouTube tutorials, starting with posters and eventually taking on small paid gigs. Community work and personal projects gave me plenty of chances to use both.
I served as president of The FOSS Club and have helped with communities like GNOME India and other student tech groups. I enjoy teaching, organising things, and sharing what I learn.
Outside of tech, I read about philosophy, history, geography, and science, or whatever else catches my attention. I have ADHD and tend to jump between interests, so there's usually something new I'm reading about. I'm not much of a coffee person. I prefer some quiet time, a book, or a late-night experiment.
